The Greatest High on Earth

A couple weekends back I was at the beach - the wind was howling by me, the waves and coolness of the water crashing into me as I walked out, the warmth from the sun beating down.

In a moment of intense awareness I was conscious of all my senses, feeling the physical sensations and thinking to myself “for all we know, this is the only place in the universe where this experience/reality exists”. I was humbled, amazed, probably a little stoned (lol) and definitely super grateful. What a ride.

Anybody that knows me knows that I love rollercoasters and that feeling you get when you step off; your body is buzzing, your adrenaline is pumping and you’re momentarily in a mild state of shock as your mind/body is trying to recalibrate itself to re-establish its sense of balance. In other words, your “mind is blown” and you physically feel a buzzing sensation throughout your body.

The crazy thing is that the rollercoaster isn’t the trip, LIFE is.

From tiny little amoebas and bits of microscopic bacteria to developing lungs over millions of years of evolution…to developing brains and intelligence and eventually a conscious objective awareness of that intelligence...

What. The. Fuck!?!?!

Your heart just beats and that’s that. You don’t have to think about it or coach it or train it, it just…happens. Until it doesn’t. And then you’re dead.

And if that isn’t wild enough, do you know how perfect the earth’s environment has to be in order for us to exist as we do today? To cultivate and sustain that which we call “life”? It’s madness. Too much carbon dioxide in the air? Dead. Not enough oxygen or nitrogen? Dead.

What an insane reality to be experiencing. And also a perfect reason to be grateful for every single breath we get the privilege of taking.

The rollercoaster isn’t the trip, LIFE is.
